Do I need to be invited to join or can I submit my own name?

In the past, many Junior Leagues required that an “active” or current member in good standing sponsor a potential member, but this no longer the case. Though some members submit their friends’ or co-workers’ names for membership, it is not necessary to know a current member to join.

Junior League of Springfield encourages women of all races, religions and ethnicities who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to volunteerism to join. If you would like to submit your name for membership, complete the Admissions Application and mail or fax it to the address on the form.

What are the criteria for membership to join JLS?

  • Meet the age and residency requirements (21 years of age by May 31st of the current year and a resident of the Springfield area)

  • Possess an interest in volunteerism

  • Possess a commitment to community services and/or developing her own potential for voluntary community participation

What is the time commitment?

“Provisional” or new members are responsible for working five volunteer hours for the spring and fall fundraisers as well as completing the provisional training course.  Active members contribute six hours to fundraising and donate a minimum of five hours to volunteer activities.  Each active member also serves on one committee of her choice.  Though some committees involve more time commitment than others, the time you give to JLS is up to you, your schedule, and family.

Are the meetings during the day?

JLS holds its general membership meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, September – May at 7:00 p.m. with social time before the meeting. The December meeting is a social event and attendance is not required.  The May meeting is our Annual Banquet and meeting.  Provisionals will meet at a mutually agreed upon time for their training course.

Is there a deadline to join?

The Provisional class training officially begins in August with an optional orientation, or “Super Saturday” and regular training meetings begin in September. The last month to join the class is around the end of November. We encourage anyone who is interested in joining to complete a Membership Application at anytime during the year. Anyone contacting JLS about membership will be contacted regarding their application and/or invited to an informational meeting.

 How do I learn more?

JLS members hold at least one informational meeting each spring that is open to anyone interested in joining. If you are interested in attending this meeting, please submit an Admissions Application or contact

for more information.
