The Junior League of Springfield selects projects each year that are aligned with its mission and vision statements. Countless volunteer hours will be given this year to the following JLS projects.

Camp Care A Lot
A weeklong educational camping experience for children ages 6 to 10 from the Springfield area who are living with the devastating effects of poverty. The hope is that this experience will give these children the tools to become solid and productive citizens now and in the future. Junior League provides volunteers to help with camp operations and financial assistance for meals, supplies, and rental expenses. For more information, go to http://www.campcarealot.org

Phoenix Center
JLS is busy remodeling a children’s play room at the Phoenix Center facility in Springfield. The Phoenix Center provides HIV/AIDS prevention education services to the community and runs a residential program serving clients of all ages. Many clients have children and these children have nowhere to play. This will offer them a chance to unwind and express themselves in a safe and secure environment. Kids in the Kitchen
JLS is entering its third year participating in this Association of Junior Leagues International initiative to address the issues of childhood obesity and nutrition. Interactive programs include teaching area children about healthy foods and exercise and cooking kid-friendly snacks and meals. For more information, go to http://kidsinthekitchen.ajli.org

Outstanding High School Girl Community Service Award
JLS has been honoring female high school students for their commitment to volunteer service and other achievements since 1999. In 2006, we began offering a $500 scholarship to the top winner, and in 2007, we will be adding a category for college students.
